About the event
Rooted in Heritage is a student-led, community-powered celebration that redefines Thanksgiving through the lens of Black culture, wellness, and sustainability. Hosted at Jefferson County High School the weekend before Thanksgiving, this immersive event brings together live cooking demonstrations, science and health stations, garden tours, storytelling, and movement activities—highlighting the deep connections between our food, our health, and our heritage.
Led by students from the Honors Academy, NJROTC, Culinary Arts, 21st Century Leaders, Beta Club, and more, this event invites the entire community to reflect, engage, and reimagine what it means to give thanks.
Together, we honor the land, nourish the body, and celebrate the culture that sustains us.

Tickets for Rooted in Heritage: A Black Thanksgiving Reimagined, happening Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Jefferson County High School, are available at tiered rates: $3 for JCHS students, $5 for Jefferson County students, $8 for non-county students, $10 for adults, and $15 for Pay-It-Forward admission. All tickets include access to garden tours, science stations, cooking demos, and storytelling sessions.
